ICYMI: Governor Glenn Youngkin joined WLNI and WRVA radio to discuss the Backward Budget released by far-left Virginia Democrats, which includes a $2.6 billion tax hike on Virginia families.
“It’s backward and raises taxes when we’ve been lowering them for the last two years,” Youngkin said. “It took us two years to get Virginia moving, and 60 days in they’ve already started to take us backward.”

Governor Youngkin has been steadfast in his determination to protect Virginia families from the harmful policies included in the Backward Budget.
Those policies include a $2 billion expansion of the sales tax and an energy tax.
Youngkin highlighted how these tax increases come at the worst moment, when new economic reports indicate inflation remains persistent.
“There’s $2 billion of tax increases through sales taxes. They’re trying not to tell you about it. There’s $1 billion in the budget and there’s $1 billion that flows through other areas behind the curtain. They don’t want to tell people about $2 billion of tax increases on hardworking Virginians,” Youngkin said. “And then there’s at least $500 million and as much as $800 million of electricity bill taxes that they want to put back on Virginians. This is right at the time when inflation is not going away.”

Youngkin also articulated two competing visions for Virginia – one in which we move forward toward prosperity, continuing the bipartisan progress made over the last two years, and another in which we move backward toward the failed policies of the past.
“There are two visions for Virginia. One that unleashes unbridled opportunity, provides prosperity, and lets people decide how they want to live their lives. And another one that wants to continue to tax and then drive down safety in our communities, and make sure that economic development projects don’t go forward because they don’t want more jobs – they want to make sure they just tax you,” Youngkin said.
“This is the difference between my vision for Virginia – and I believe the vision that our Republican General Assembly members have been progressing – and what the other side wants to do.”
