ICYMI: Governor Glenn Youngkin today joined CNN’s State of the Union from Ramstein Air Base in Germany as he begins an international trade mission to Europe.
Youngkin discussed Virginia’s strong economic ties internationally, the need to bolster relationships with allies around the world, and the antisemitic protests on college campuses across America.
VIRGINIA’S STRONG ECONOMIC TIES INTERNATIONALLY:
“It’s critically important for us to have deep relationships with our trusted allies. I think we’ve done a great job in the Commonwealth of Virginia in bringing companies to Virginia but also developing relationships around the world,” said Governor Youngkin.
BOLSTERING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ALLIES AROUND THE WORLD:
“Those relationships must be strengthened; they must be deepened. Because the reality is that, China particularly, is trying to dominate the world at America’s expense. We must build these trusted allies and supply chains into the most important industries like semiconductors. That’s something that we’re continuing to work for in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Governor Youngkin.
ANTISEMITIC PROTESTS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES:
“Freedom of expression and peacefully demonstrating is at the heart of our First Amendment, and we must protect it, BUT that does not go to intimidating Jewish students and preventing them from attending class and using annihilation speech to express deeply antisemitic views. Therefore, I have been working with our Attorney General Jason Miyares, our university presidents, and law enforcement at the state, local, and campus levels to make sure that if there are protests, they are peaceful. We’re not going to have encampments and tents put up. And yes, we will protect the ability to peacefully express yourself but we’re not going to have the kind of hate speech and intimidation we are seeing across the country in Virginia,” said Governor Youngkin.
