ICYMI: Governor Glenn Youngkin vetoed dozens of Democrat gun control bills this week, reaffirming his commitment to protecting the right of Virginians to keep and bear arms.
“I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of Virginia, and that absolutely includes protecting the right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin.
As Fox News reports, Youngkin vetoed “30 gun control bills that would ‘punish law-abiding gun owners,’ according to a press release from the governor’s office.”

In the batch of 30 bills blocked on Tuesday, the governor explained his reasoning for each. He blocked a bill that would criminalize gun possession at public colleges, saying that the Democrats failed to consider “Virginia’s diverse geographic, cultural, and societal norms across different regions,” and that individual colleges can already prohibit guns if they want to.

Youngkin vetoed a range of gun control bills, including one measure that would have banned the sale, transfer, or purchase of an “assault firearm” after July 1, and classifying the acts as misdemeanor crimes. The Virginia governor expressed concern over the constitutionality of the measure.
