Welcoming Virginians to the Executive Mansion

This week, Governor Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin recognized some of the Commonwealth’s  most resilient, generous and committed volunteers who exemplify the best of  Virginia.

“It is my pleasure to recognize these honorees for the positive impact they have had in our Commonwealth and in the lives of their fellow Virginians,” said Governor Youngkin. “Each honoree has made an impressive impact in their community and made life better for Virginians.”

Governor Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin also hosted cider makers from across Virginia, where Governor Youngkin presented an official proclamation declaring November 10-19, 2023 as Virginia Cider Week. Together, they sampled ciders once enjoyed by our Founding Fathers such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, and celebrated the Virginians who are carrying forward the rich history of cidermaking in our Commonwealth.

The first Lady's Feature

On behalf of Governor Youngkin, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin presented a Spirit of Virginia Award to God’s Pit Crew on Friday in Danville, Virginia.  God’s Pit Crew mission began in 1999 when Randy and Terri Johnson coordinated an effort to go to Oklahoma and help those affected by a devastating series of tornadoes.  Today, the faith-based non-profit has over 1,000 volunteers and is one of the most organized and efficient teams in the world of benevolence and disaster relief.  God’s Pit Crew has responded to 175 natural disasters both domestically and internationally. They have built over 80 homes for wounded veterans, widows, natural disaster victims, children’s group homes, and families in need.  And each year, they distribute thousands of Blessing Buckets packaged with essential items.  God’s Pit Crew is the 6th and final recipient of the Spirit of Virginia Awards for 2023.  The Governor and First Lady were joined by Secretary of Transformation Eric Moeller, Former Mayor of the Town of Chatham William Pace, and Virginia Delegate Wren Williams of District 9.  It was an event filled with faith and fellowship.  Volunteers of God’s Pit Crew shared heartfelt testimonials. Governor Youngkin and the First Lady also participated in a Blessing Bucket assembly line.

Life is a Highway

Governor Youngkin this week broke ground on the highly anticipated I-64 Gap Widening Project, which will increase capacity and mobility, alleviate congestion, improve safety, and enhance connectivity along the I-64 corridor.
