Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin recently hosted “A Celebration of Virginia Arts” at Wolf Trap National Park. The evening reception acknowledged the vitally important role the arts have in Virginia. Influential Virginia art supporters, Virginia Commissioner for the Arts Margaret Hancock, and Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera also attended. Following the reception, the Governor and First Lady presented the Richmond Ballet Lifetime Achievement Award to Carmen de Lavallade, who was one of 4 principal dancers from the original 1959 cast of Carmina Burana.
The Youngkins then enjoyed two spectacular performances by the accomplished Richmond Ballet. The evening ended with a masterful collaboration of Carmina Burana by the Richmond Symphony and Chorus, City Choir of Washington, and Wolf Trap Opera artists.
Additionally, the First Lady attended a productive Sisterhood reception in Northern Virginia, where more than 180 women and girls participated. The joyful event included hearing from Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera on the state of education in the Commonwealth. It was also an opportunity to engage with impactful, female-led nonprofits that are successfully meeting the needs of vulnerable Virginians.
